Facilitation & Mediation Services
When groups are at risk of losing ground or wasting time due to
mismanaged differences, it may be wise to involve a professional facilitator,
moderator, or shuttle diplomat. At the heart of all our skill-building
courses is facilitation that meets people needs and interests while remaining
focused on the group's goals. Call us to discuss your unique situation if
you are considering using a professional facilitator or mediator for a meeting
or event.
Large Group Facilitation and
Mediation Success Stories
Example 1:
A California college preparatory school was in trouble. The teachers,
parents and administrators were blaming the board (and each other) for
mismangement,
incompetence and illegal acts. Students did not know what to
think. Communication had broken down. It appeared that the school
was at risk of having
its charter revoked or worse. Through collaboration with both sides (the
board and the local office of education), we successful facilitated and
mediated an open meeting of more than 150 people, using ground rules to help
make it safe to express
honest ideas and concerns. Those in attendance ultimately voted to
rebuild the board, restore interpersonal trust and to save the school itself.
Example 2:
Before it became law, principal Daniel Robin facilitated an emotionally-charged meeting of more than 100
diverse individuals and government leaders in an open debate on the NAFTA
trade agreement. This facilitation allowed for successful exchange of
views,
civilized and instructive public comment, and resulted in effective collaboration
toward coherent policy recommendations.
Example 3:
In 1993, after the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, principal Daniel Robin used
shuttle diplomacy and facilitated negotiation to restore cooperation between
an Egyptian-run consulting company and the Kuwaiti government (Ministry of
Defense, Military Engineering Projects) to rebuild roads, airports, and other
infrastructure. When Mr. Robin was brought in, all
communication between the company and Kuwaiti government had ceased, with
the head of the Kuwaiti government committee expressing a strong desire to cancel the
project. The project was successfully completed several months later,
earning DR&Associates accolades for having "achieved the
impossible."
